Biblical Counseling is a process of Biblical guidance that seeks to apply the wisdom and truths of Scripture to the challenges of life. Unlike "Christian Counseling," which is often a clinical mental health service that integrates psychological theories with a Christian worldview, Biblical Counseling relies on the Bible as the primary authority for understanding the human heart and navigating life’s difficulties.

The Nature of the Service

This service is scriptural and spiritual in nature. It focuses on growth in character, the pursuit of spiritual maturity, and finding biblical perspectives on personal and relational struggles. It is conducted through a lens of faith, prayer, and scriptural application.

Important Distinctions & Scope of Practice

To ensure the highest ethical standards and clarity, it is important to understand the following boundaries regarding this specific service:

  • Non-Medical/Non-Clinical: Biblical Counseling is not a healthcare service. It does not involve the diagnosis, assessment, or treatment of medical conditions or mental health disorders as defined by the DSM-5.

  • Standards of Care: If you are seeking treatment for a specific clinical diagnosis (such as Clinical Depression, Bipolar Disorder, or PTSD), a clinical mental health framework is required. In order to adhere to ethical standards, Maple Tree Christian Counseling does not substitute Biblical Counseling for professional medical or psychiatric care.

  • Insurance & Billing: Because this is a spiritual discipline rather than a medical treatment, Biblical Counseling is not covered by insurance and does not meet the criteria for "medical necessity" required for reimbursement. All sessions are provided on a private-pay basis.

Is this right for me?

Biblical Counseling is an excellent fit for individuals who are seeking spiritual direction, looking to align their lives with their faith, or navigating seasons of grief, conflict, or transition through a strictly scriptural framework.
